How to comment on a proposed development in Fairport and Perinton
Who hears a proposed development in Fairport or Perinton, when they meet, and how to speak or send a written comment to the Planning Board or the Town Board.
To have a say on a proposed development in Fairport or Perinton, speak at the hearing or send a written comment before it. A written comment is the surer route, because it reaches both the board and the applicant. Which board hears the project depends on where the land is, so start with the Am I in the village? lookup if you aren't sure.
Inside the village: the Village Planning Board
The Village Planning Board reviews site plans, sign plans and subdivisions, and meets on the first Monday of each month at 6 pm. To comment on any case, email the contact on the Planning Board's page or write to Village Hall, 31 South Main Street, Fairport, NY 14450. Comments are shared with the applicant and the board.
Outside the village: the Planning Board or the Town Board
Perinton sorts projects by type. The Planning Board approves subdivisions, which is how most new multi-home construction is approved, and site plans, which is how most commercial development is approved. It typically meets the third Wednesday of the month at 7 pm in the Town Hall Board Room, though dates are subject to change or cancellation. The Town Board decides special use permits, rezonings and local laws.
For a Planning Board hearing, you can speak at Town Hall, 1350 Turk Hill Road, or on the Zoom webinar listed on the agenda. Written comments go to the town's Director of Volunteer Boards by noon on the day of the hearing, through the Planning Board contact form or by mail to Perinton Town Hall, 1350 Turk Hill Road, Fairport, NY 14450. The town sends written comments to the applicant and board members. Three projects have a Planning Board hearing on Wednesday, October 21: a 95-unit apartment building at WillowBrook Office Park, Ayrault Townhomes and five home lots on Turk Hill Road.
For a Town Board hearing, you can speak at Town Hall or join on Zoom with the link on the agenda. Written comments go to the Town Clerk by noon on the day of the meeting, at the email address printed on the agenda or by mail to Perinton Town Hall, Attn: Town Clerk. The Town Board hears a rezoning on Pittsford-Palmyra Road on Monday, October 19, and hears a pause on new housing in three areas on Monday, October 5.

A sign in the neighborhood means the property is scheduled for review by the Planning Board, the Zoning Board of Appeals or the Town Board, and signs are one way the town notifies residents of a hearing. The town's Properties Under Review page posts the applications. The village and town both send board notices by alert: see how to get village and town alerts.
