Which side of the village line are you on?

Ongoing service

The village line isn't your mailing address, your school district or Fairport Electric's territory. How to tell which side you're on.

What this means

Your mailing address, school district and electric service don't tell you whether you live in the village. Search your address on the village's Am I in Fairport? map: inside the dashed line is the village, outside is town only.

The Village of Fairport runs along the Erie Canal in the middle of the Town of Perinton, so everyone in the village also lives in the town. Which side of the village line you're on decides whether village services apply to you, and three things people often go by won't tell you:

  • Your mailing address. A Fairport mailing address doesn't mean you live in the village.

  • Your school district. Perinton is split among five school districts: Fairport, Victor, East Rochester, Penfield and Pittsford.

  • Your electric bill. The village owns Fairport Electric, but it serves more than 17,000 customers in the village and in Perinton, so having it doesn't put you inside the village.

To find out, search your address on the village's Am I in Fairport? map: inside the dashed line is the village, where you get village and town services; outside it is the town only. Fairport Electric has its own service area map for whether it can serve an address.

Fairport was a busy canal town by the late 1820s, but it didn't become a village until 1867.
