# Voting in the November 3 election

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, and polls are open 6 am to 9 pm. To vote, you need to be registered by Saturday, October 24. You can also vote early at any early voting site in Monroe County from October 24 to November 1, or vote by mail.

## Am I registered?

Look yourself up on the county's [voter lookup](https://www.monroecounty.gov/elections-voter). It shows your registration, your Election Day polling place and your sample ballot. New York State has its own [voter lookup](https://voterlookup.elections.ny.gov/) too.

## How do I register?

To register, you must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 (you can pre-register at 16 or 17), and have lived in Monroe County for at least 30 days before the election. The county's [registration page](https://www.monroecounty.gov/elections-registration) lists the other requirements.

- **Online:** [register through New York State](https://www.ny.gov/services/register-vote) if you have a New York driver license, permit or non-driver ID.
- **On paper:** print the registration form from that page, sign it in blue or black ink, and mail it or bring it to the Monroe County Board of Elections, 435 Smith Street, Rochester. The Perinton Town Clerk's office at Town Hall, 1350 Turk Hill Road, has forms too, weekdays 9 am to 5 pm.

The Board of Elections has to receive your form by **Saturday, October 24**.

Moved since you last voted? Send the Board your new address the same way. If it arrives by Monday, October 19, the Board processes it before the election. If you're later than that, call the Board and it will tell you where to vote.

## Who is on the ballot?

Fairport and Perinton are in the 25th Congressional District, the 55th State Senate District and the 135th Assembly District. Your [sample ballot](https://www.monroecounty.gov/elections-voter) shows exactly what you will see. These are the candidates the Monroe County Board of Elections certified for these offices, with each party line, in the order of the county's [certified candidate list](https://www.monroecounty.gov/files/boe/Documents/GE26%20Candidates%20List%20-%20CERTIFICATION%2020260911%20-%20WEB.pdf).

## Early voting

Vote early at any of the 15 early voting sites in Monroe County, every day from Saturday, October 24 through Sunday, November 1. The site in Perinton is Perinton Presbyterian Church, 6511 Pittsford-Palmyra Road. See [every site on the county's early voting page](https://www.monroecounty.gov/elections-earlyvoting).

- Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 9 am to 5 pm
- Tuesday and Thursday: noon to 8 pm

If you vote early, you can't vote again on Election Day.

## Voting by mail

Any registered voter can ask for an **early mail ballot**; no reason is needed. An **absentee ballot** is for voters who will be away from the county on Election Day, are ill or disabled, care for someone who is, are a patient in a Veterans Health Administration hospital, or are in jail for something other than a felony conviction.

Apply online through the [state's ballot request page](https://elections.ny.gov/request-ballot), or use the forms on the county's [absentee voting page](https://www.monroecounty.gov/elections-absentee).

- **Apply by mail or online:** the Board has to receive your application by Saturday, October 24.
- **Apply in person** at the Board of Elections: through Monday, November 2.
- **Send it back:** mail it with a postmark no later than Tuesday, November 3 (it has to arrive by November 10), or drop it in the ballot drop box at any early voting site or polling place in the county by 9 pm on Election Day.

Once you ask for a mail ballot, you can't vote on a machine at the polls. You can still vote in person on an affidavit ballot, which counts only if your mail ballot didn't arrive.

## On Election Day

Polls are open 6 am to 9 pm on Tuesday, November 3. Vote at your assigned polling place, which may not be the same as your early voting site: find it with the county's [polling place lookup](https://www.monroecounty.gov/elections-voter). When you check in, you give your name and address and sign.

## Accessibility

- Polling places are inspected for accessibility, and you can mark your ballot on an accessible ballot marking device during early voting or on Election Day.
- You can bring a friend or relative to help you vote, or ask an election inspector.
- If a print disability makes a paper ballot hard to use, you can apply for an accessible ballot; the county's [absentee voting page](https://www.monroecounty.gov/elections-absentee) links the application.
- Every early voting site has a Spanish interpreter. ASL interpreters are at the Monroe County Office Building, the Brighton Farmers Market and the Henrietta Public Library. The county has more on [interpreters and language access](https://www.monroecounty.gov/elections-language-access).
